Opening of ‘Werkschau – Made in Sachsen’ in Chemnitz

From April 2 to September 4, 2025, cultural and creative professionals from all over Saxony will showcase the state’s creative diversity at “Werkschau – Made in Saxony” in Chemnitz. The exhibition brings together around 100 Saxon creatives, presenting their innovative products, projects, and services in one central location. It impressively demonstrates how well-thought-out design, smart solutions, and unconventional ideas create real value. Visitors are invited to rediscover the regional creative landscape – “Werkschau – Made in Saxony” serves as a source of inspiration, awareness, and information. In addition to the permanent exhibition, changing special exhibitions will provide additional impulses.

Sven Schulze, Mayor of the City of Chemnitz and patron of “Werkschau – Made in Saxony,” emphasizes: “Chemnitz is undergoing change and transformation, and ‘Werkschau – Made in Saxony’ embodies this spirit. The exhibition is a significant event for our city and a testament to the vibrant and diverse creative scene in Saxony. As Mayor of Chemnitz, I am proud to support this event as its patron.”

The ceremonial opening on April 2, 2025, also marks the official start of the European Days of Arts and Crafts and the application phase for the Saxon State Prize for Design. The event will be inaugurated with a speech by Dirk Panter, Saxon State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy, and Climate Protection.

As an official accompanying program of Chemnitz 2025, European Capital of Culture, “Werkschau – Made in Saxony” will be a key event for the industry and the public.

Werkschau – Made in Saxony “Werkschau – Made in Saxony” is a platform that makes the potential and achievements of Saxony’s cultural and creative industries visible. Since 2019, it has been showcasing creative works, products, and projects every two years in the fields of design, craftsmanship, fashion, literature, art, and other creative sectors at changing locations. The fourth edition of “Werkschau – Made in Saxony” will be open for 22 weeks in Chemnitz, bringing people together in a space that had been unused for years and is now being revitalized as a vibrant meeting point.

OPEN CALL ‘WERKSCHAU – MADE IN SACHSEN’
Cultural and creative professionals from across Saxony can apply for the “Werkschau – Made in Saxony” until 10 January 2025.

From 2 April to 4 September 2025, the “Werkschau – Made in Saxony” will showcase the most exciting projects and works from Saxony’s cultural and creative industries as part of the supporting programme of Chemnitz 2025. The exhibition impressively demonstrates how thoughtful design, smart solutions, and unconventional ideas make all the difference. It inspires, raises awareness, and informs, while inviting all of Europe to rediscover Saxony’s creative landscape in the Capital of Culture year.

Call for Submissions

We are looking for contributions from dancers, musicians, designers, artisans, game designers, fashion creators, bookmakers, or members of an artist collective—anyone engaged in creative work in Saxony is welcome to apply.

The “Werkschau – Made in Saxony” offers cultural and creative professionals the opportunity to present themselves in an appealing and professional manner to a wide audience. A cross-media campaign will further increase the exhibition’s reach. Participation for exhibitors is free of charge.

FINALE OF THE ‘WERKSCHAU – MADE IN SACHSEN’
Closing of the successful special exhibition at the Industriemuseum Chemnitz

After eight weeks, the ‘Werkschau – Made in Sachsen’ exhibition organised by KREATIVES SACHSEN is coming to an end. Visitors were able to experience the fascinating world of Saxony’s cultural and creative industries up close as part of the special exhibition at the Industriemuseum Chemnitz.

Over 130 Saxon exhibitors presented their remarkable works, providing an impressive insight into the diversity of the creative scene. Since 30 March 2023, 15,500 people from all over the world have visited the exhibition.

The finale of the ‘Werkschau – Made in Sachsen’ on 29 May 2023 from 10.00 to 17.00 celebrates the success of the exhibition with a final tour of the show and a colourful programme. Guests can look forward to a live concert, a dance performance on skids, live graffiti and lots of hands-on activities such as tying dried flower wreaths, sewing bags or creating a self-painted animated film.

‘The ‘Werkschau – Made in Saxony’ is an impressive demonstration of the creativity, talent and innovative strength that exists in Saxony,’ says curator Susanne Grund from KREATIVES SACHSEN. ‘We are proud to have given exhibitors and visitors alike the opportunity to experience Saxony’s cultural and creative industries live and thus make them a little more visible.’

KREATIVES SACHSEN and the Industriemuseum Chemnitz cordially invite all interested parties to visit the finale of the ‘Werkschau – Made in Sachsen’ on 29 May 2023 and celebrate the conclusion of this unique exhibition together. OPENING OF ‘WERKSCHAU – MADE IN SAXONY’ IN CHEMNITZ

From 30 March to 29 May 2023, cultural and creative professionals from all over Saxony will be showcasing Saxony’s creative diversity at the Industriemuseum Chemnitz.

As part of a special exhibition, 130 Saxon creatives are presenting their unique ideas and high-quality products together in one place at the ‘Werkschau – Made in Sachsen’ organised by KREATIVES SACHSEN. The Saxon State Secretary for Digital Administration and Administrative Modernisation and Commissioner of the Saxon State Government for the European Capital of Culture 2025, Prof. Thomas Popp, and the acting Museum Director of the Chemnitz Industrial Museum, Jürgen Kabus, will officially open the exhibition on 30 March 2023 at 11.00 a.m. in the Industriemuseum Chemnitz.

Afterwards, the curators of the exhibition, Susanne Grund and Steffi Auffenbauer, will guide you through the special exhibition. We invite you to accompany the tour. All those involved and the exhibitors will be available for a discussion afterwards. Guests can also look forward to an extensive supporting programme throughout the opening day.

„Werkschau – Made in Sachsen”
The ‘Werkschau – Made in Sachsen’ is an exhibition curated by KREATIVES SACHSEN with works from design, arts and crafts, fashion, literature, art and other creative industries. The temporary exhibition takes place every two years at different locations.

The third edition of ‘Werkschau – Made in Sachsen’ can be seen for the first time for eight weeks during regular opening hours at the Industriemuseum Chemnitz. Various events will be organised around the exhibition, providing further insight into the diversity of Saxony’s creative scene. The patron of the ‘Werkschau – Made in Sachsen’ is the Lord Mayor of Chemnitz, Sven Schulze.
